Lyndsay has presented in-person and virtually to various audiences including municipalities and local and national planning conferences on 2SLGBTQ+ inclusivity in planning. This session highlights how planners and city employees can alter their day-to-day tasks in simple, cost-effective, easily implementable ways to take steps towards fostering 2SLGBTQ+ inclusivity. Key takeaways were provided on three main areas: pronouns, public engagement events, and written communications. Lyndsay builds inspiration with audiences by exploring projects and tools in use today and by reflecting on current practices.

Alberta Professional Planners Institute: Meet Again Conference (Oct 2022)
This session brought together planners from a range of equity-deserving groups, to explore everything from individual challenges and perceptions to organization changes. This panel included members of the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo’s Equity and Inclusion Office, who focused on creating an inclusive and equitable workplace. Members of the panel shared their experiences and stories with a focus on queer inclusivity.

As a guest lecturer at University of Alberta, Lyndsay speaks about Planning with Marginalized People to the Community Planning & Engagement class. This presentation reviews engagement best practices and highlights challenges and barriers that exist for marginalized people in standard engagement processes. It suggests more equitable ways to design engagement events that reduce barriers to participation.

Traditional land use regulation can have adverse impacts on human health, the environment, economic growth, and social progress. In a live talk show-style panel and fun interactive setting, three millennial planners from the Alberta cities of Beaumont, Leduc, and Fort Saskatchewan explored emerging approaches and lessons learned applying zoning tools that build more resilient, diverse, adaptable, inclusive, welcoming, and complete communities.
Using Equity to Plan with Vulnerable Communities

Lyndsay was invited to guest lecture at the University of Alberta for the Planning for Social Equity class. This presentation examines assumptions made in planning practice that are used today to support the status quo and how these assumptions are not meeting the needs of equity deserving groups. It highlights initiatives municipal governments are taking to recognize vulnerable communities and presents techniques Planners can incorporate into their practice to move beyond recognition and begin to address existing unmet needs.
